BALLET

ALL TECHNIQUE CLASSES

Girls:

Black leotard (no attached skirt)

Tight fitting dance shorts are NOT permitted

Pink tights

Pink Ballet Shoes (no house shoes)

Hair should be pulled neatly back in a bun or short ponytail for all classes, with bangs and shorter pieces pulled away from face.

Boys:

White T-shirt

Black Dance/Sweat pants

White Socks

White or Black Ballet Shoes

In ballet it is important for the teacher and student to clearly see body lines and body placement throughout class.  Having hair pulled away from the face allows students to properly exercise spotting and other techniques while learning skills.  It is essential that the dress code is followed to ensure a productive learning environment for all students.

HIP HOP (RECREATIONAL)

  1. White tennis shoes (any style, any brand).  These must be tennis shoes exclusively for Hip Hop class.  NO outside street shoes, please.  Recreational students will use white tennis shoes in class, for pictures and recital.

  2. Any types of dance clothes (athletic shorts, tank tops, t-shirts and sweat pants).

  3. NO jeans, jean shorts, khaki pants or khaki shorts.

  4. Hair pulled back out of face (ponytails, headbands, etc.)

  5. NO video game device in classroom.

  6. Cell phones should remain TURNED OFF in the classroom.  This includes NO TEXTING OR VIDEO.  Parents may call the front desk if there is an emergency.

Water only in the classroom.  No food of any kind or chewing gum allowed in the classroom

Please remember time is limited between classes and it is very important to start class on time.  Therefore, if you need to speak to an instructor you have a couple of options:  You may leave a message at the front desk with the receptionist and the instructor will call you back when possible or you may email your instructor.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!  We are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have.

MIXED CLASSES

PRE-SCHOOL DANCE

Mixed Class, Tap/Ballet Combo Class and Tap/Jazz Combo Class

Mixed Class consists of ½ hour of Dance (including Ballet, Jazz and Musical Theater) and ½ hour of Tumbling (including front rolls, back rolls, backbends and cartwheels).  Special emphasis is placed on agility, flexibility, motor coordination skill, motivation and the thinking process.

Music, Dance and Tumbling will help students grow in self-esteem and self-assurance.  Students will be divided into an Older and Younger class based on age and/or class experience.  Each class will perform a combination routine of Dance and Tumbling at Recital. 

Students will need the following for Mixed Class:

  1. Any color leotard

  2. Pink tights

  3. Pink Ballet Shoes (soft canvas or leather.  No pink house shoes routinely sold at Wal-Mart)

  4. Make sure to initial name inside of ballet shoes.

  5. Hair worn back out of face (ponytail, bun, headbands, etc.)


Tap/Ballet Combo is ½ hour of Tap and ½ hour of Ballet.  Special emphasis is placed on the basics of dance technique as coordination skills and motor skills are more defined.  Dance terminology is introduced as the creativity process is developed in dancers.  This class is a great progression from Mixed Class.  Students will perform a Ballet dance at Recital.

Students will need the following for Tap/Ballet Combo:

  1. Any color leotard

  2. Pink tights

  3. Pink Ballet Shoes (soft canvas or leather.  No pink house shoes routinely sold at Wal-Mart)

  4. Black Mary Jane Tap Shoes

  5. Make sure to initial name inside of ballet shoes and tap shoes.

  6. Hair worn back out of face (ponytail, bun, headbands, etc.)



Tap/Jazz Combo is ½ hour of Tap and ½ hour of Jazz.  The Jazz portion consists of warm-up, stretching and introduction to jazz terminology.  The Tap portion introduces footwork and rhythm with tap sounds.  This class is a great progression from Mixed Class and Tap/Ballet Combo.  Students will perform a Tap dance at Recital.

Students will need the following for Tap/Jazz Combo:

  1. Any color leotard

  2. Any color tights

  3. Pink Ballet Shoes or Tan Jazz Shoes (Ballet: pink soft canvas or leather.  No pink house shoes routinely sold at Wal-Mart.  Jazz: tan slip on jazz shoes.)

  4. Black Mary Jane Tap Shoes

  5. Make sure to initial name inside of ballet shoes, jazz shoes and tap shoes.

  6. Hair worn back out of face (ponytail, bun, headbands, etc.)


If your child is sick or unable to attend class, make-up classes can be scheduled with the instructors.

Please remember that time is limited between classes and it is very important that we start on time.  Therefore, if you need to speak to an instructor, you may leave a note at the front desk with the receptionist and the instructor will call you back.

JAZZ

Recreational Jazz

  1. Tan Jazz Shoes (Full Shoe Style, Any Brand).  Students will use tan jazz shoes in class, for pictures and recital. 

  2. Any type of Dance Clothes (leotards, jazz pants, dance shorts/booty shorts, tank tops, etc.).

  3. NO jeans, jean shorts, Khaki pants, khaki shorts, or skirts that are not dance skirts may be worn.

  4. Hair pulled back out of face (ponytails, buns, headbands, etc.)

  5. Cell phones should remain TURNED OFF in classroom.  This includes NO TEXTING, NO PHONE CALLS, NO SOCIAL MEDIA AND NO VIDEO.  Parents may call the front desk if there is an emergency.

  6. Water only in the classroom.  NO food of any kind.  NO chewing gum.

  7. Dance clothing and dance shoes can also be purchased online at TJS

Jazz Company and Jazz Technique

  1. ATTEND ALL CLASSES AND EXTRA REHEARSALS/CHOREOGRAPHY, Including make-up classes and choreography sessions.  Failure to do so could result in dismissal from Jazz Company.

  2. ATTEND ALL COMPETITIONS AND PERFORMANCES including Recital, Spring Showcase, Community Events, etc.  Failure to do so could result in dismissal from Jazz Company.

  3. Jazz Company members must be enrolled and attending ALL BALLET CLASSES and JAZZ TECHNIQUE (Minimum of 2 Ballet Classes per week for Jazz Company Members and 1 Jazz Technique per week for Jazz Company Members) Failure to attend Ballet Class/Jazz Technique could result in dismissal from Jazz Company.

  4. Cell phones should remain TURNED OFF in classroom.  This includes NO TEXTING, NO PHONE CALLS, and NO SOCIAL MEDIA AND NO VIDEO.  Parents may call the front desk if there is an emergency.

  5. Water only in the classroom.  NO food of any kind.  NO chewing gum.

  6. Be punctual for class with proper dance attire and shoes, with hair pulled back out of face.

  7. BLOCH “NEOFLEX” SLIP ON JAZZ SHOES will be used for Jazz Company members in Competition for Jazz and Lyrical.  Competition Color will be determined based on costume, but TAN is preferred for jazz technique.  These can be ordered online from Discount Dance

Tap Recreational:
